Shelter
in the Air
Title:
FlockNet
Parameters:
Megaplex of Fez, Morocco, north Africa. Year 2027. World
population 12 billion, 60% of population lives in cities, 70% of that
in third world countries.
Problem:
Huge, autonomous, self-governed cities without feasible
political or economic way for introducing adequate local data /
educational network infrastructure. Satellites are controlled by
few huge corporations.
Attempted
solution:
Hybrid urbanization.
Solution is borrowed from nature and data networks organization. It appears
as artificial flock of birds constantly flying above city. It is
swarm like entity with different casts - embodiment of distributed data
network which takes shape above city. Each autonomous cellular unit
is solar propelled ultra-light miniature glider, equipped with processor
and cheap receiver / sender, doing simple tasks such as data packets
switching and transferring data to other nearest unit.
Flying, the Flock can reach any point in mega-city. There is no central
unit, so it shapes and distributes itself by need. It is never completely
replaced but always updated by seeding more units from airships and introducing
new casts and algorithms. We communicate with the Flock by using
any kind of patchwork equipment or discarded grounded gliders.
It is independent from anything and uncontrollable. It shelters us...
from us.
It teaches and it listens...It is...
...recyclable...
...guerrilla...
...hybrid...
...stealth...
